Creating Flipcharts

By the time you get to this page in the wiki you'll be very familiar with your Promethean board. You have downloaded several flipcharts and have recycled many. You know the tools well and are very comfortable using your board with students. You're at this point because you're ready to create flipcharts that match your curriculum and your style of teaching. Hurray! You're in for loads of fun!

Resource Library

Good news! Promethean Planet has several resource packs just waiting for you to download them! Search for resource packs just like you would search for flipcharts only select resource packs. This video will show you how to save the resource packs. I've also included instructions on this wiki on the page titled 'Using Flipcharts'.

Customizing the Toolbar

Some tools seem a little hard to find in Inspire. If you use a tool over and over you might as well add it to your toolbar so it is handy! Go to View in the menu bar and choose customize. Choose the Commands tab. Find the tool in the left hand column that you'd like to add to your toolbar. Select it and click on Add. In the right hand column you can select a tool and move it up or down in your toolbar.

Add a Grid

You might want a grid for making charts or aligning objects or for your scrabble letters! Click on Edit and choose Grid. Click the box to make the grid visible. Click on the + or - to increase or decrease the size of the grid.

Making a Rollover

This little trick will let you move your mouse over an object and have a word pop up! Drag an image from your images folder. Highlight the image. Go to the Property Browser. Under label you'll see a space to type in a caption. Type in the word or words you want to pop up. Change the behavior to Tooltip. You also have some options here to change the font, size, background and opacity of the text.

Adding a Video (Watch the Activtip called 'Embedding Video')

1. Download a video from Discovery Streaming, YouTube, PBS, or use your own videos.
2. Drag the video onto your ActivInspire page or you can go to Insert in the menu and choose Media.
3. Save the flipchart.
4. If you want to store the video 'inside' ActivInspire, drag it from the page into your Page Browser. Highlight My Videos and save it there.
5. With the video highlighted on the page, go to your Property Browser. You have some options for manipulating the video under Multimedia. You'll be able to set the video to loop so it starts over once it's finished, you can hide the video controls, etc.

Adding a Sound

1. For this example we'll use iTunes music. Make sure you have some songs in your iTunes. Discovery Education has many songs and sounds to choose from.
2. Go to Insert in the menu bar of ActivInspire and choose Media.
3. Select your Music Folder, then iTunes, then iTunes music and navigate to the song you'd like to have in your flipchart.
4. Click on Open and it will insert it onto your page. If you want to keep the music in Inspire, then drag it into My Sounds folder in your Resource Library.

Drag a Copy

1. Put a graphic on your flipchart page. This is something that you might need several copies of. For example, on a weather calendar you might want to have a sun for the students to drop on sunny days.
2. Right click (control click) on the graphic. Select drag a copy.
3. Now click on your graphic and drag it. Voila!

Drag and Drop

1. In the action browser, choose drag and drop.
2. These are actions that can be put on your pages. For example, the reset button. If you or your students write on a page you don't want to save the page with their changes on it. Add a reset button to the page and then reset the page.
3. You'll see the tools that are available here. Drag the tools that are needed for each page of your flipchart.
